V-RAM
VEHICLE RADIATION
ALARM MONITORING

The v-RAM product is a car mounted mobile system for the
detection and location of radiation sources. The ACG Security Systems
Vehicle Radiation Alarm Monitoring (v-RAM)
system for Police and First Response vehicles represents the next
generation of vehicular borne monitoring systems.
Recent events have increased the need for locating radiation sources in
a wide variety of locations and situations, particularly those that
might be used for acts of terrorism.
The v-RAM system is
based on the ACG Security v-RAID technology, technology that has been
certified, tested and verifiable to exceed current specification needs
listed by the Government and others agencies and with a device
efficiency rating double what is currently available.
The radiation spectrum data from the v-RAM detectors is collected
and stored in one-second intervals eliminating the possibility of ‘dead
time’ between spectra due to the list-mode capability in the v-RAID
Digibase.
Detection is capable at a distance of 30 metres (100’) with the vehicle
in motion at a speed of 50 kmh (30 mph). Data is processed at a rate
of 40GB / second resulting in an output of 3-D radiation “noise” images.

The images, produced at a rate of 53 per 1/10 second, are then compared
with the v-RAID Digibase for potential alarm situations. To help with
identification of the radioactive materials, the total spectrum is
recorded rather than solely utilizing the total count rate as done in
previous generation systems.
v-RAM alarm conditions are continually monitored and plotted to a
central command and control screen in a variety of user-friendly maps
and spectral displays including time-stamped data events .
Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to determine the position of the
vehicle as spectrum and count are collected.
